The Jackson Police Department is committed to providing law enforcement services to the 175,000 citizens of the capitol city of the State of Mississippi with honor and integrity.

About Us

The Jackson Police Department was founded in 1822. The Jackson Police Department being the largest municipality in the State of Mississippi, serves approximately 175,000 residential citizens encompassing 115 – 120 square miles within the city limits of Hinds County. The department has budgeted positions for 402 sworn officers, supported by approximately 170 professional staff.

The Jackson Police Department is a progressive law enforcement agency that has embraced modern technology along with forming a strong partnership with our citizens and businesses to provide a safer community environment. We were re-accredited by the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MSLEAC) in June 2019. The department provides law enforcement services to the citizens of the capitol city of the State of Mississippi. Amended Use of Force Policy

On Friday, June 19, 2020, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba signed an executive order amending the Use of Force Policy for the Jackson Police Department. In addition to a number of measures taken to reimagine the City of Jackson’s approach to public safety, JPD’s amended Use of Force Policy is yet another step to honor the commitment this administration has made to building relationships amongst Jackson residents and police officers based on trust, integrity, and community partnership where abuse of power and misconduct have no place.
